The camping by the duck pond is true. His name was Jay and was an Archictecture student, when it got cold he slept in the studio until the cleaning ladies came and woke him up every day at 530 AM. Legend.... Wait for it... Hope you're not lactose intolerant... Dairy! Haha

Until households (or communities) are incentivized for recycling you're always going to have this "problem". I would mention that having trash service is better than not, or making it voluntary-participation, and is one of the reasons why Valley Curbside Recycling was started in Christiansburg.

Christiansburg has a voluntary trash service, meaning residents opt-in or out. This also means that trash gets tossed into piles, or left on the side of the road, inviting all kinds of health/safety problems. It's not uncommon to see trash - and the bags that once contained the trash - being tossed in the wind, as animals have eaten into the bags, or to see individuals leaving bags of trash and debris in fields and empty lots. This kind of scenario is exactly what you're describing in your last paragraph.

It's not perfect, sure, and mandatory doesn't mean you have to participate, but by giving you the tools necessary to participate you end up having a higher overall collection rate. That's a good thing. And it's an awesome thing that it's something you're actually paying attention to.

Thanks a lot Jim! Looks like the races Saturday may get shortened, but I personally don't mind riding in the rain, although there are a lot of hard corners on the course.

Hey Cortney, glad you got a chance to read! I spend about an hour every night writing about the day haha, but it's great helping me remember everything that happens!
I'm so-so on the mohawk haha but it's fun, as are the sandwhiches! Only one sandwhich didn't turn out, tooo many good things on it haha (the oreo and cream cheese...)
